Care briefings for Georgia

Cover for your medicine and your care

The offer says insurance may help. Ask your own plan about the named product and proposed use before counting that help into your budget.

Give the plan a product name and proposed use

Have the exact medicine name ready when speaking to your plan. Ask which use the clinician is proposing and what information the plan needs.

Insurers call their medicine list a formulary. Prior authorization is the plan’s name for agreeing to a prescription before the pharmacy can fill it. Ask about both, and get the answer in writing.

For Medicare, the use changes the question

Part D is Medicare’s prescription drug benefit.

The law was checked September 26, 2026: medicines taken for weight loss remained outside the usual Part D drug benefit.

Another accepted use, such as diabetes treatment, could allow Part D cover, subject to the plan’s own list and prior approval rules.

GLP-1 medicines include semaglutide; its brands include Ozempic and Wegovy. Tirzepatide belongs to this group too, with the brands Mounjaro and Zepbound. They act like a natural hormone, a body messenger involved in blood sugar and appetite.

The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge is temporary help with weight-medicine costs. The price to people who qualified was $50 per month for certain medicines, according to the September 26, 2026 check.

This help began July 1, 2026. December 31, 2027 is the planned closing date. Payments go through a separate route outside the usual Part D benefit.

Your health conditions and type of Medicare plan affect whether this program is open to you. People with type 2 diabetes use the ordinary Part D route instead.

Ask the plan about that temporary route separately from its ordinary drug cover.

Questions for your plan

  • Will my plan pay for this product for the reason my clinician gives?
  • What must be approved before I fill it?
  • What share of the drug charge and visit charge falls to me?
  • Which pharmacy can fill it under my plan?
  • Can I have a written decision and the steps for a review?
